CEO
Amy O. Mazzan
The CEO, Amy, a native Kenyan, fell in love with the idea of instilling hope through Education, as she witnessed the power of Education change lives and communities when she was barely a teenager. Inspired by a visit to her paternal village as an adult, Flip Flop Friends was born in 2018! Initially a plan to provide only flip flops to 500+ students at Magunga Primary School to ensure some comfort as they trekked to school, it quickly morphed into a larger project due to the increase in funds from our great donors. We now provide flip flops, shoes, book bags, sanitary napkins, high school scholarships and several special projects.
Magunga Primary School was a natural fit, as Amy's father attended the school, and her grandfather donated the land on which the school is built. With a BA in Political Science and Gender Studies, and an MS in Negotiations and Conflict Management, her focus was always on Sub-Saharan Africa. Amy views youth education as a source of hope, and a deterrent to major potential global conflict. Flip Flop Friends was a clear launching pad to assist in global stability for our youth. Amy works on Flip Flop Friend endeavors and also holds a full-time position as a Business Development Executive for a large technology company in the Washington D.C. area.
